On another note, the reason yop gave for the ban, “advertising” is a bit misleading as posting links in itself is allowed. However, I don’t agree with the posting of pornhub links in public chat even if it was just a joke. A warning or kick might have been more reasonable in this case, however by now the ban has expired and this is no longer an issue. I will leave this thread open for a little while longer if anyone has anything else to add. If not It will be locked later on.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about the link posting rule and what is and isn’t allowed. From my point of view posting any link “could” be considered advertising in some sense as it encourages people to visit a site. Exceptions to this will be when someone asks about a subject beforehand and someone else posts a link to help them. If the link posted is malicious or could be considered inappropriate for general chat that in my mind would warrant punishment.

Now in this case you could argue that someone asked about this subject beforehand, but that would be a stretch. What should be clear is that this sort of link isn’t appropriate for general chat and a tempban of an hour doesn’t seem like an unreasonable response.

In a few incidents lately there have been disputes over the wording/interpretation of rules and how staff administer punishments in such cases. I agree the rules need to be made as clear as possible so both staff and members alike are clear on how to act, however in nearly ALL these incidents the player in question has failed to follow: Rule 2. Make use of your brain & common sense! ◦This rule makes most - if not all - of the following rules obsolete ◦Note: Not having a brain does not exclude you from this rule.

If you can’t understand why you got a tempban for posting that link, then I will point you in the direction of the second note under this rule.

It’s rather clear who’s at fault at this point and I feel this ban is entirely justified, this ban isn’t because you posted a link. That part in itself is allowed. It’s the TYPE of link you posted that got you banned. You are trusted, you should know better. Next time please follow rule 2 as Ion said.

Actually, now that I think about it and the way I see it; For someone to be kicked and especially banned, they first need to break a rule. @yop_tropix, exactly what rule did Gumsie break?

Rule 2: It was a funny response. Rule 4: Is pornhub.com a swear word now? Rule 5: He was clearly not advertising! Rule 8: He said it once. Rule 11: Um, he didn’t build anything.

You mods need to stop calling people out, kicking and banning for reasons that do not exist on info/rules. Or why even have them at all?

How about making a small change to Rule 11 to included such things? Something like: Do not create inappropriate builds or say inappropriate things. (e.g: don’t build giant dicks, or say porn in chat) -keep it PG

I am not trying to defend people who say such things in chat, I am just trying to implement a rule so they no longer can if this is a server for “young players”. Just a thought. Saying things like that does not effect me at all, but I completely understand when children come into play. :p

Exactly that. I couldn’t figure out how to word it. The way you put the 18+ is on point.

Temp bannable offence IMO if they still break the new rules; like a few hours to a day or something like Yop did, but now there is a rule.

My opinion on this is that if you really want to mention an 18+ sites name, as long as you aren’t encouraging people to go look it up or whatever then fine. However if you link the site directly then that is definitely punishable. We have people of all ages playing on this server, as cheetie said. So the idea of making an exception to the links are allowed rule to prohibit linking to 18+ sites I definitely agree with. A kick would be more appropriate in this situation though, however in this case as rule 2 is open to interpretation (as mentioned above) and the original ban being 1 hour, I can’t really fault yop for it.

So just to summarize my point, add a “no 18+ links in chat” rule and that should take care of pretty much the whole issue I think.
